10/03/2017 – Identity Crisis
This week I have been in Poland which similarly to the UK is suffering from an identity crisis. Which season is it supposed to be?
A few weeks ago there was snow and severe cold. Then there was a brief summer of 15-20 degrees Celsius, and now it has fallen back into mild and wet. It just can’t make its mind up.
Unlike the UK, Spring is not really the profusion of yellow daffodils and crocuses. But everywhere and everyone has a tulip. I have never seen so many as in the hotel I have been staying in with 20 or 30 on every table.
I like Poland and the Polish people, there is a real sense of positivity and optimism amongst the people I work with and it is a rapidly growing economy with large numbers of global brands moving out there.
When you travel around the world it isn’t often you see somewhere that has such massive potential, but that is certainly the case in Poland. However, I found out this week that Krakow, which is only a few hours away, has been recently measured as the most polluted place in the world, even more polluted than the worst places in China. Apparently at this time of year people still need heating and they burn the worst things on their fires, even old tyres. You can imagine the amount of smoke that they must create.
But if that sort of oddity can be eliminated, the country will prosper and the snub from the UK that is BREXIT will become a distant memory as people move back to a prosperous homeland.
Tantric Toads
I’ve not been home to see the garden or wildlife and therefore this week is a hugely truncated blog. But I have my spies and I am reliably informed that - while the cat is away the toads are at play!
Not only do they play toad piggyback and other forms of toad games but they do it very noisily from the sanctuary of the pond.
Before I left I saw two Herons helping themselves to the frogs in the pond, but it is good to know that there are many young ones about to take their place. With the toads also in the act it doesn’t look like we are about to run out any time soon.
I have included a few pictures to cheer you up on a Friday. It is always spirit lifting to see the buds popping.
Have a great weekend!
